Sing Your Heart Out Rosita!

Finished!

Using my favourite colour combination, blue and orangy yellow, I finished "Sing Your Heart Out Rosita" last night around midnight.  I can picture her hanging in a Spa, or ladies gym for "inspiration".  What better motivation!

And here are some detailed close ups...

Blue Sky & Sunny Orange Inspirational Quote Relief Painting

Day 74

Chubby Art Challenge

Expect Success

I wanted to keep this piece simple because I believe the message should be equally simple.  We should expect success, but how many times do we start out with the idea that "this probably won't work." We have got to change our thinking!

“Expect Success" is an Original Contemporary Folk Art Mixed Media Relief Inspirational Chubby Art Painting by Alison Galvan.
Just as each message has great meaning for me personally and is created with great care and thought, so each letter has been lovingly sculpted by hand utilizing Sculptamold, a Paper& Gypsum product. Once completely dried, the letters are then meticulously hand painted with Professional Artist Grade Acrylics, and finally, firmly mounted onto a whimsically painted, naively styled 5” x 7” Gallery quality wood panel.
These petite, loving messages are perfect for a child's room, guest, or family room, office, or in any space in which one may find need of inspiration and positive affirmation.
"Expect Success" is signed and dated on the back of the painting. It is wired and can be hung immediately, or stand alone on a shelf.
All Chubby Art is varnished to protect it from dust and UV rays.

Feeling silly, a little bit kooky and inspired by Easter colours, Joy, was a joy to make after my week long hiatus.  Hope you enjoy!

Hiatus Over! The Chocolate Race Commission Finally Finished!

I'm Back

I was flipping out trying to do my daily sculpting / painting challenge, Chocolate Race commission, work full-time, and be a wife and mother to two teens.  Needless to say I was doing none of the above well, and more than that, I was becoming a grumpy, stressed out B#$%^&.
Definitely not pretty!
So I took a week off from my daily challenge work and focused wholeheartedly on my 4 Chocolate Race paintings and today I finished!  You can see them in The Chocolate Race put on by Dirty Runner Productions held in Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines, Ontario on Sunday April 29th.

Here's a sneak peak!

Stay tuned... more exciting chubbyartnews of gallery showings and competitions coming up!

Thanks for Visiting!

ORANGE

Orange - How does it affect us?

Positive: Physical comfort, food, warmth, security, sensuality, passion, abundance, fun.

Negative: Deprivation, frustration, frivolity, immaturity.

Since it is a combination of red and yellow, orange is stimulating and reaction to it is a combination of the physical and the emotional. It focuses our minds on issues of physical comfort - food, warmth, shelter etc. - and sensuality. It is a 'fun' colour. Negatively, it might focus on the exact opposite - deprivation. This is particularly likely when warm orange is used with black. Equally, too much orange suggests frivolity and a lack of serious intellectual values.

STRIVE

Day 60

Chubby Art Challenge

Strive

This piece is aptly named as I really had to strive not to give up and walk away from this one.  My art store ran out of the Gallery wood panels that I usually paint on and so for the first time in ages I painted on canvas and had quite a struggle.  What was driving me crazy was how slowly the paint dries on canvas in comparison to wood.  I kept messing things up because I thought the paint was already dry when it wasn't - Groan!

LIFE IS GREAT!

Day 55

Chubby Art Challenge

The wonderful thing about children is their goofiness and
total zest for life and living it to the fullest in complete innocence
that a person could live it in any other way. The odd ball combination
of Orange, Yellow and Blue makes me think of kids and the words are
what I think kids must think, even if they don't always put it into words!

Day 51

Chubby Art Challenge

My Hero

About the Painting
"My Hero" is an Original Mixed Media 3D Sculptural Relief Chubby Art Painting by Alison Galvan created with Sculptamold, a Paper & Gypsum product, & painted with professional Artist grade Acrylics on a 5" X 7" inch gallery quality wood panel.
Just as each message has great meaning for me personally and is created with a lot of thought, so each letter is lovingly sculpted by hand, dried, individually painted, and mounted onto a whimsically decorated wood panel.
I am a positive person.  I like to laugh much and often, but lately when I look at what we surround ourselves with I shake my head, no wonder we are so screwed up.  TV shows that glorify adultery, movies whose themes revolve around the dark side of humanity, video games that focus on theft and murder, newscasts of bombing and mayhem and art and music that depicts subjects that make me want to cry and go into a deep depression.  What are we doing to ourselves?
I believe our thoughts are things and while I've never thought of myself as a loopy, way out there, head in the clouds artsy fartsy type, I do think that if I create positive, inspiring, happy work, I can make a change certainly in my own world, but hopefully in your world too.
What kind of world do you want to live in?  Let's create a happier one together!
"My Hero" is signed and dated on the back of the painting.  It is wired and can be hung immediately or framed and then hung, whichever is your preference.

All Chubby Art is varnished to protect it from dust and UV rays.

Artist Statement
People think of our daily comings and goings as simply boring routine, but for me, I call it fabulous inspiration. Observing the world around me, I see life as one would imagine it on an old fashioned movie reel. The lights turned out, a box of popcorn on my lap and as the projector whirs and clicks frame after frame lights up the screen with ridiculous characters acting out wonderfully hysterical situations. And while mundane, if we stop and really observe the everyday we find ourselves relating to the humour of the event, or the beauty, fear, or joy. It is from these moments, like stilled scenes captured from the movie reel, that my artwork is born.
Working 3 dimensionally with my hands molding the paper and gypsum sculpting compound connects me both intellectually and tangibly to the richness of each character. As I sculpt, building up and cutting away, exaggerating proportions, expressions and fashions, my goal is to capture the power in the personality of the people and things the sculpture portrays. Bold colours complete each piece adding a sense of strength and vibrant energy that animates each scene bringing it to life.
My artwork is a reflection of my desire to see the humour in the everyday experience, finding joy in the small things. Through my artistic vignettes I want to uplift, transform and bring a little laughter into the world. There are stories to be told and I have a passion to tell them!
Artist Bio
With limited artistic experience in high school and almost zero drawing skills, I persevered with my creative ambitions earning a Fine Arts Degree at Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, graduating in 1993 with a major in Fashion Design. On returning home to British Columbia, Canada I began my own business designing and manufacturing children’s clothes, selling to stores in Western Canada and Toronto. Marrying in 1996, I switched gears, devoting all my time and energies to raising and homeschooling my two children. While a busy mother, I contributed to the family finances creating two online shops selling plus size underwear, and Asian statues. Now, with children grown to independence, I have decided to once again explore my artistic passion, taking on the challenges of working 3 dimensionally, an interest sparked in university. My Sculptures and 3D Relief Paintings are all about capturing the funny moments and ridiculous characters that fill up our daily experience. Happy and joyful, the subjects and colors are a reflection of my desire to create artwork that brings warmth and humor into any space in which it is displayed.
